I had high hopes for Singapore. Like Indonesia, they were running off high fumes from the SEA Games and the ASEAN Basketball League where their performance reached unprecedented heights. A bronze in SEA Games and a trip to the ABL Finals had us looking forward to what more this particular core of Singaporean players could bring.

As the teams of the SEABA Championships approached their positions for the award ceremony, you could feel a sense of dissatisfaction from the Singapore team.
Winning bronze in any international competition is no small feat, but I think Singapore set the bar for themselves a bit higher than that.

ในระหว่างที่แต่ละทีมขยับเขยื้อนเข้าหาตำแหน่งในพื้นที่บริเวณรับเหรียญของตัวเอง ก็รู้สึกได้ถึงความไม่พึงพอใจในตัวเองของนักบาสเก็ตบอลสิงคโปร์
การคว้าตำแหน่งอันดับสาม หรือ เหรียญทองแดงในรายการแข่งบาสเก็ตบอลระดับนานาชาตินี่ ไม่ใช่อะไรที่ทำได้ง่ายๆ แต่สำหรับสิงคโปร์แล้ว น่าจะตั้งเป้าหมายไว้สูงกว่านั้น เลยเกิดความผิดหวัง
ABL Recap: Grit And Grind
Imagine a 100-meter dash between Usian Bolt and JR Smith. Sure, Bolt is the fastest human being dead or alive (because Zombies can’t run that fast) but every time he’d gain some steam, Smith would just untie his shoelaces and Bolt would have to stop and tie them up. Smith would take the lead for a while, until Bolt would eventually catch up with him. Smith would untie his shoelaces again and take the lead again. And so on. That would one hell of an ugly footrace.
It would be a footrace I’d pay to see, but one hell of an ugly footrace nonetheless.
And it’s pretty much the way the game between Hi-Tech Bangkok City and the Singapore Slingers went the whole night.
