I realize that it has been two weeks since the ABL Finals ended, which makes it two weeks since this article should have come out, but then again, I have a day job and to capture all of the things going on in these games takes so much time. This is the ending of a season, and after I had been following this league for the whole season, I wanted to go out on a high note.

For me, the things I like most about basketball are the things that aren’t happening on the court. It’s the little things that matter.
Fast paced small ball is the trend in which basketball is approaching. Gone are the teams with two traditional big men banging and pounding the ball down low in a grind it down 15-18 second possession. Such a trend is headed to Southeast Asia as well. Welcome to the new, fast, and furious era of the ABL.

Basketball is fun because of all of the dunks that display unbelievable aerial abilities or the wild shots and buzzer beaters. Even a bounce pass can be fun in the right situation and circumstances. But amid all of that, one of the more entertaining parts of basketball is all that is going on behind the curtains.

“Killer instinct” is a rare quality in the beautiful game of basketball. That is why it is always blurted out by commentators about certain players. The thing about “Killer Instinct” that makes it so intriguing, other than the highlights that it creates, is that there seems to be a belief that either you are born with it or you don’t have it at all. Maybe that’s because players that are accepted to possess this legendary quantity are so uncommon.
