Mono Vampire win! It’s been quite a while since those words have typed in and it’s the best way to open up this writeup.

THE MONO VAMPIRE WIN THOUGH. ON THE ROAD. AGAINST THE 7-5 SINGAPORE SLINGERS.
It wasn’t perfect. It was far from pretty. But it’s one more in the win column and that’s what Mono Vampire really care about and what matters for them right now.
The Mono Vampire fell on the wrong end of a 9-0 run to end the third quarter and the situation went worse once center Malcolm White had fouled out of the game. But by playing solid defense down the stretch, they were able to turn it all around to seal the 81-79 win.
Mono Vampire are now 2-8 sitting at 9th in the standings while the Slingers are at 7-5 at 5th place.
D Up
For all the changes that Mono Vampire had made to steer back onto the tracks, it was a simple matter of just hustle and effort that got them the win. Down by seven points early in the 4th quarter, Mono Vampire cranked up the intensity on defense and stuck to it all the way to the win.
The Slingers came into the 4th quarter shooting 44.6% from the field but managed only 38.5% for the final 10 minutes. This included a frustrating stretch where the Slingers missed 4 straight shots with the score in only one possession range. Mono Vampire played straight up in-your-face defense during the last stand, forcing bad shots and turnovers (5 in total) out of the Slingers and also shutting down the passing routes to John Fields.
Malcolm White was brought in to upgrade both offensively and defensively, but fouled out midway through the 4th and managed only 2 points off free throws during the final stretch. Moses Morgan was sited to be replaced due to a lack of high-scoring production, but there was no big outburst of scoring from anyone else in the 4th quarter of this game. In a way, how the Vampire won this game wasn’t entirely a result of the changes they made but more a product of what they already had and were capable to do…
Freddilicious!
…except maybe for the addition of Freddie Lish.
The flashy combo guard hasn’t rushed his transition into the Mono Vampire rotation, but came up huge with big time baskets in the clutch. Whether it was the three-pointer to get the Mono Vampire to within 67-65 or the layup to give them the 78-76 lead, it was all Freddie Lish doing what he was brought in to do.
The big question now is whether the average amount of minutes he plays right now is a good mix already or if he deserves more playing time.
Vengeful Singletary
Michael Singletary missed out playing the last game with a one-game suspension and it could turn out to be a blessing in disguise. The 6’5 forward had previously been shouldering a lot of responsibility for the Mono Vampire and it’s very possible that getting one game away from it all could have freshened him up a bit.
He came out in this game on fire and ended up tying his career-high of 5 three-pointers, arguably his best long-range shooting performance of the season.
A point of slight concern is his lone free-throw attempt (and missing it, too). A large part of Singletary’s efficiency and effectiveness is how good he is at getting to the line (and converting those trips into points). He’s had at least 4 free-throw attempts in each of the previous games this season and only two games from the previous season not reaching that many chances at the charity stripe. A large part could be because White has already done a good deal of banging and drawing contact.
It was not a problem in this game with just how well he was shooting from beyond the arc, but worth a look in case this outlier becomes the start of something bigger.
Is a Moses Morgan return possible?
The Mono Vampire have gone two games after cutting Moses Morgan, resulting in one big loss and another morale-boosting close win. Since Singletary was out for one of those games, it’s actually a bit tough to gauge if Mono Vampire are better or worse without Morgan.
At the very least, it would have probably been nice to have a big body capable of defending Maxie Esho and John Fields this past two games despite whatever slump he was going through. It was earlier confirmed that Morgan had already been released by the team both via commentary on livefeed, Morgan himself, and Mono Vampire Manager, Apichok Saekow… but is it possible to bring him back?
The ABL allows a certain number of “local players” to be registered into a team’s roster per season. Teams may then use the players from that roster to select for their 12 players on each gameday. A local player takes up one quota once he is registered with the team in the ABL and takes up that spot until the end of the season, even if he is released.
Saekow mentioned the team to have 2 local player spots in the total quota that can be filled in. One can assume that Mono Vampire might be saving one of those spots for whenever or if ever that can agree to a deal with Thai-American Tyler Lamb, but the interesting thing right now is whether one of those remaining spots can be used to re-sign Morgan into the roster. It would mean burning through two local player slots on one player, but if there is no plan to sign anymore than two new local players it would be worth it to at least explore the possibilities of the situation.
By technicality, it seems like there shouldn’t be a problem… but are Morgan and the Mono Vampire ready to get back together?
The next game for the Mono Vampire are the Westports Malaysia Dragons who are coming in with a two straight victories over San Miguel Alab Pilipinas and Wolf Warriors.

แล้วก็เป็นการคว้าชัยชนะที่ยากไม่ใช่เล่นเลย เป็นการเล่นนอกบ้านเจอทีมแข็งๆ อย่างสิงคโปร์ สลิงเกอร์ส
มันไม่ใช่ชัยชนะที่สมบูรณ์แบบ และยิ่งแน่นอนว่าไม่ใช่ชัยชนะที่สวยหรูเท่าไหร่ แต่ ณ ตอนนี้ อะไรก็ได้ที่เพิ่มจำนวนชัยชนะให้กับทีมได้ ก็น่าจะเพียงพอแล้วสำหรับทีม Mono Vampire
แม้จะโดนรันแต้มไป 9-0 ในช่วงท้ายควอเตอร์ที่ 3 จนต้นควอเตอร์ที่ 4 และ แม้ว่าสถานการณ์จะยิ่งดูแย่ลงเมื่อเซนเตอร์ตัวเก่ง Malcolm White ได้ฟาวล์ครบ 5 ครั้งต้องออกจากเกมไป แต่การเล่นเกมป้องกันที่เหนียวแน่นๆ ช่วยให้ทีมสามารถพลิกกลับมา และเอาชนะได้อย่างหวุดหวิด 81-79 ในครั้งนี้
ตอนนี้ Mono Vampire มีสถิติชนะ 2 แพ้ 8 ครั้ง อยู่อันดับที่ 9 ในตาราง ส่วนสลิงเกอร์สอยู่ที่ชนะ 7 แพ้ 5 อยู่ในอันดับที่ 5
ป้องกันโว้ย!
แม้ว่า Mono Vampire จะพยายามเปลี่ยนอะไรต่ออะไรหลายๆ อย่างเพื่อให้ทีมสามารถหวนกลับมาฟอร์มที่สามารถเข้าไปถึงรอบชิงแชมป์ได้เมื่อปีที่แล้ว… แต่จากที่ดูในเกมนี้ เหมือนว่าสิ่งที่สำคัญที่สุดที่ทำให้ชนะได้ เป็นเพียงแค่ความกระตือรือร้นในการตามบอล และ ก็ความตั้งใจในการป้องกัน แม้ว่าในควอเตอร์ที่ 4 จะตามอยู่ถึง 7 แต้ม แต่ก็ได้เกมป้องกันที่ดุเดือดจนสามารถทำให้เอาชนะไปได้
ในช่วงสามควอเตอร์แรก Slingers ยิงอยู่ที่ 44.6% ซึ่งก็ถือว่าดีระดับหนึ่ง แต่ในช่วงควอเตอร์ที่ 4 กลับทำได้แค่เพียง 38.5% เท่านั้น รวมไปถึงช่วงจังหวะที่ยิงพลาดติดๆ กัน 4 ครั้ง ในจังหวะเกมสูสีอีกด้วย เป็นผลของการป้องกันแบบประกบชิดของ Mono Vampire กับตัวผู้เล่นอย่าง Delvin Goh หรือ Larry Liew ซึ่งทำให้เกิดจังหวะยิงที่ไม่ดี อีกทั้งยังทำให้ Slingers เสียเทิร์นโอเวอร์ถึง 5 ครั้งอีกด้วย และที่สำคัญที่สุดคือการปิดการทำแต้มของ John Fields
ก่อนหน้านี้ ทีมได้ดึง Malcolm White มาร่วมทีม เพื่ออัพเกรดในด้านของทั้งเกมป้องกัน และ เกมบุก แต่เขาดันฟาวล์ครบ 5 ครั้งไปตั้งแต่ช่วงกลางๆ ควอเตอร์ที่ 4 เป็นข่วงหัวเลี้ยวหัวต่อของเกม
Moses Morgan ที่ถูกเปลี่ยนตัวออกไป ก็มีเหตุลประกอบคือเรื่องการปรับปรุงเรื่องระดับการทำคะแนนและการยิงสามแต้ม แต่ในช่วงเวลาที่สำคัญในเกมนี้ กลับไม่ได้มีการทำแต้มกระจุยกจะจายกันเท่าไหร่นัก
ถ้าหากมองอีกมุมก็คือ สิ่งที่ทำให้ Mono Vampire สามารถเอาชนะได้ในวันนี้ ส่วนหนึ่งก็คือ มันเป็นสิ่งที่ทีมมีอยู่แล้ว และ ทำได้อยู่แล้วมาตั้งแต่แรกทั้งนั้น อาจจะมีที่เสริมเข้ามาแล้วเกิดผลดีมากๆ ก็คือ….
เฟรดดี้!
การ์ดสุดจิ๊ด Freddie Lish ไม่ได้เร่งรีบกับการอัดตัวเองให้เข้ากับระบบของ Mono Vampire เท่าไหร่นัก และ เหมือนจะค่อยๆ ปล่อยให้ทุกอย่างเป็นไปตามธรรมชาติมากกว่า แต่ในเกมนี้ ก็ได้เขานี่แหละ มาทำแต้มสำคัญในช่วงหน้าสิ่วหน้าขวาน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นสามแต้มลูกสำคัญที่ไล่ตีตื้นมาเป็น 67-65 หรือ แม้แต่ลูกเลย์อัพที่ทำให้นำออกไป 78-76
ทั้งหมดนี้ คือ น่าจะเป็นสิ่งที่คาดหวังกับตัว Freddie ซึ่งเขาก็ทำได้ดี
คำถามตอนนี้ก็คือ เวลาในการลงเล่นของเขาตอนนี้เหมาะสมแล้วหรือไม่ หรือว่า ถึงเวลาจะต้องปล่อยให้เขาลงไปวาดลวดลายมากขึ้น
ความคับแค้นเต็มทรวงอกพี่ Mike Singletary
การที่โดยพักโทษแบนไป 1 เกมอาจจะเป็นสิ่งที่ดีสำหรับ Singletary ก็เป็นไปได้ ปีกตัวทำแต้มวัย 30 ปีคนนี้ แบกรับภาระหนักอึ้งของ Mono Vampire มาตลอดตั้งแต่ต้นซีซั่น และไม่แน่ว่าการที่ได้พักไปหนึ่งเกมอาจจะได้ทำให้เขามีพื้นที่ในการระบายความเครียดตรงนั้นออกไปบ้าง และ ทำให้เขาสดชื่นมากขึ้น
เพราะในเกมนี้ ดูแล้วเขาก็ออกมาเล่นได้อย่างไหลลื่นจริงๆ จนยิงสามแต้มไป 5 ลูกจากการยิงทั้งหมด 8 ครั้ง เท่ากับจำนวนการยิงสามแต้มที่มากที่สุดในการเล่น ABL และน่าจะถือว่าเป็นผลงานการยิงสามแต้มที่ดีที่สุดในซีซั่นนี้อีกด้วย
แต่! สิ่งที่อาจจะต้องระแวงนิดนึง คือ เรื่องจำนวนการยิงจุดโทษ ที่เขาได้ยิงเพียง 1 ครั้ง (แถมยังพลาดอีก) ที่ผ่านมาความเก่งกาจของ Singletary อย่างหนึ่ง คือ เรื่องการเรียกฟาวล์ และ การเก็บลูกโทษ ตลอดสองซีซั่นที่ผ่านมานี้ มีเพียง 3 ครั้งเท่านั้น (รวมเกมนี้) ที่เขาได้ยิงลูกโทษไม่ถึง 4 ครั้งในหนึ่งเกม ส่วนหนึ่งอาจจะเพราะเกมทนี้มี “พี่ขาว” Malcolm White ทำหน้าที่ทะลวงวงในอย่างดีเยี่ยมอยู่แล้วด้วย แต่ก็ยังอดที่มองข้ามความผิดปกติทางสถิติตรงนี้ไม่ได้
แน่นอนว่า ไม่ใช่ปัญหาที่ใหญ่โตอะไรเลย ยิ่งในเมื่อเขายิงดีมากจากระยะสามแต้ม… แต่ก็อาจจะต้องมองเผื่อๆ ไว้บ้าง ว่ามันคือความเปลี่ยนแปลงอะไรที่กำลังจะเกิดขึ้นต่อๆ ไปอีกหรือไม่
เป็นไปได้ไหมที่ Moses Morgan จะกลับมา?
ผ่านไปสองเกมโดยที่ไม่มี Moses Morgan ผลที่ออกมาคือแพ้กระจายไป 2 เกม แล้วก็ชนะอย่างฉิวเฉียดไปอีก 1 เกม แต่ในเมื่อ 1 เกมนั้นไม่มี Singletary ก็ยังทำให้อ่านได้ยากอยู่ดีว่า สรุปที่ตัด Moses Morgan ออกไปนี่ ดีหรือไม่ดีกันแน่
แต่ก็ปฏิเสธไม่ได้ว่า อย่างน้อยการที่มีผู้เล่นที่มีร่างกายหนาๆ หนึ่งคนมาช่วยป้องกัน Maxie Esho หรือ John Fields ในสองเกมที่ผ่านมานี้ ก็คงดีไม่ใช่น้อย แม้ว่าผลงานเกมบุกจะฝืดยังไงก็ตาม… จากทั้งการบรรยายในถ่ายทอดสด หรือจากการสอบถามผู้จัดการทีม นายอภิโชค แซ่โค้ว และ ตัว Morgan เอง ก็ได้ความว่ามีการปล่อยตัวไปแล้วเรียบร้อย… แต่มันยังเป็นไปได้รึเปล่าที่จะเอาเขากลับมา?
สำหรับ ABL จะมีกฏที่อนุญาตให้ทีมส่งรายชื่อผู้เล่นในกลุ่ม Local Players (ซึ่งในกรณีของ Mono Vampire ก็คือผู้เล่นที่มีเชื้อชาติไทย) ได้จำนวนหนึ่ง (น่าจะ 14-15 คน) และผู้เล่นที่จะลงเล่นในแต่ละเกม ก็ต้องเลือกมาจากผู้เล่นกลุ่มนี้เท่านั้น (ไม่รวมถึงตัว Import) ผู้เล่นที่ลงทะเบียนไปแล้ว ก็จะนับต่อจำนวนผู้เล่น Local Player ที่ลงทะเบียบได้ 1 ตำแหน่งจนจบซีซั่น… ไม่ว่าผู้เล่นคนนั้น จะถูกปล่อยตัวไปแล้วหรือไม่ก็ตาม
สำหรับเงื่อนไขนี้ ผู้จัดการทีมอภิโชค ได้เสริมว่าทางทีม Mono Vampire น่าจะเหลืออีก 2 ตำแหน่งสำหรับการลงทะเบียบ Local Player และ แฟนๆ ก็อาจจะมีการคาดหวังว่าจะเก็บไว้ 1 ที่ให้กับลูกครึ่งไทย-อเมริกันสุดฮอต ไทเลอร์ แลมป์… แต่ตอนนี้ สิ่งที่น่าสนใจอีกอย่างก็คือ Mono Vampire จะสามารถใช้ 1 ในตำแหน่งที่ว่างอยู่นั้น ในการเซ็น Moses Morgan กลับมาได้หรือไม่?
มันอาจจะแปลว่าต้องเสียตำแหน่งผู้เล่น Local Player 2 ที่ให้กับผู้เล่นคนเดียว แต่ถ้าไม่ได้มีแผนที่จะดึงผู้เล่นคนไหนเพิ่มเข้ามาอีกเร็วๆ นี้… มันก็เป็นอะไรที่น่าลองคิด ลองค้นหาแนวทางอยู่เหมือนกันรึเปล่า?
ทางเทคนิคแล้ว ดูเหมือนจะไม่มีปัญหา… เพียงแต่ว่า ทั้ง Moses Morgan และ Mono Vampire เอง พร้อมที่จะกลับมาร่วมงานกันอีกครั้งหรือไม่?
