There’s been much speculation on the Mono Vampires joining the ASEAN Basketball League this season with plenty of supporting evidence. Since it seems like we’re inching closer to a rumor turning into a reality, let’s look at what that might mean.

What rumor about the Mono Vampires joining the ABL?
In case you haven’t read the post about possible teams joining the ABL this season, go take a crack at it. Totally worth your time and a good read in retrospect. Take it from the writer someone who enjoyed reading it.
So apparently, it started from a post from Pete Bhodaramik the team owner that included #ABL and after a swirl of rumors, things started to become clearer when an article from David Lee of The New Paper (Singapore) confirms the report, including a quote from Singapore Slingers General Manager, Michael Johnson, mentioning Mono’s participation in context.
The ASEAN Basketball League then released a teaser trailer on the afternoon of September 29th (read the breakdown of that HERE) which showed glimpses of the Mono Vampire logo before ASEANSports eventually reported confirmation that the Vampires were joining the ABL.
While there’s no official confirmation so far from the ASEAN Basketball League nor the Mono Vampires themselves yet, it shouldn’t take no longer than next week for some sort of announcement for either side.
Why should we care about the Mono Vampires coming back to the ABL?
If – or Once – the Mono Vampires announce their return to the ASEAN Basketball League, that means the return of a Thai team to the ASEAN Basketball League. In a way, it should have a somewhat similar impact as the CLS Knights joining the ABL. Both Thailand and Indonesia are proud basketball nations in the ASEAN region, and for the ABL to get both countries back into their competition is a huge win.
In Mono Vampires case, they had already played in the ABL two seasons ago. So this would actually be considered a case of returning more than joining the league once it happens.
Thailand has one of the richest histories in the ABL (despite a lack of continuity in the participating clubs) so it would definitely be good to see the Mono Vampires back in ABL picture.
Since their last run in the ABL (which saw them finish 5th place with a 3-17 record), the Vampires have progressed into a legitimate high-level basketball team. They have won the Thailand Basketball League for three straight seasons. As the first Thailand representative team in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup in nearly 2 decades, at worst they will going to finish in 6th place. The Vampires line up is riddled with National Team players and have been playing with top-notch imports Reggie Johnson, Mike Singletary, and Fil-Am Jason Brickman for the past year.
Thai fans will be getting to see some of their top players play against some of the top players from other countries in a highly competitive setting over the course of a 6 month season. ABL fans are going to be getting to see some of the matchups they were craving for last year.
So what should we expect from the Mono Vampires joining the ABL?

Seriously though, having the Mono Vampires in the ABL means that we’ll finally get to see ABL teams play in Stadium29. This was already supposed to happen back in when the Vampires first joined the league, but the stadium wasn’t completed in time.
Most importantly, the Vampires should be much, much better than their previous 3-17 squad. Unless something drastic changes, they are expected to still be retaining Kannut Samerjai, Ratdech Kruatiwa, and Darongphan Apiromwilaichai who all played exceptionally well.
Something fans should really be looking forward to is a full season of Chitchai Ananti and Teerawat Chantachon.
Ananti was a late season addition and made an instant impact as an explosive scorer for the team. It’s going to be fun to see how the team does if they have him instantly from the start of the season.
Chantachon was also a late addition, but didn’t have as big of an impact as the team focused on using two big men World Imports. Lately, he’s been breaking out as one of the brightest big men in Thailand which should warrant him a larger role.
It’s also believed that the Mono Vampires will be re-signing Jason Brickman, Mike Singletary, and Reggie Johnson for the ABL. If that happens, that gives them a trio of imports than has been together and playing with the team for almost an entire year. That sort of chemistry is not something even retaining teams in the ABL can say, let alone a new one.
So are we really serious about Mono Vampires joining the ABL?
Better get used to it guys.

ช่วงที่ผ่านมานี้ ก็มีข่าวลือหนาหูพอสมควรเกี่ยวกับ โมโน แวมไพร์ ว่าจะกลับมาเข้าร่วมแข่งใน ABL อีกครั้ง และ ก็เริ่มมีหลักฐานมาสนับสนุนข่าวลือนี้มากขึ้นเรื่อยๆ ด้วยเหตุนี้ เรามาดูกันดีกว่าว่า ถ้าข่าวลือนี้ เป็นจริงขึ้นมาแล้ว มันจะมีผลอะไรบ้าง แล้ว มีความหมายอะไรบ้าง
หืมม ข่าวลืออะไร โมโน แวมไพร์ อะไร ABL อะไรหรอ?
ถ้าหากว่ายังไม่ได้อ่านบทความของเราว่าด้วย ทีมต่างๆ ที่อาจจะเข้าร่วม ABL ในปีนี้ ก็ไปอ่านซะ ฆ่าเวลาได้ดี แล้วยิ่งกลับมาอ่านตอนที่ทีมเริ่มประกาศกันไปแล้วก็ตลกดี
เรื่องของเรื่องคือ คุณพิชญ์ โพธาริมิก เจ้าของทีม โมโน แวมไพร์ ได้มีการโพสรูปใน Social Media แถมด้วยแฮชแท็ก #ABL ซึ่งก็เป็นตัวจุดประกายประเด็นข่าวลือที่ว่า และ ทุกอย่างก็เริ่มมีความชัดเจนมากขึ้น เมื่อมีรายงานจากบทความใน The New Paper (สิงคโปร์) ที่ยืนยันข้อมูลต่างข่าวลือ ซึ่งมีการกล่าวถึงคำพูดของ GM ของทีมสิงคโปร์ สลิงเกอร์ส ไมเคิล จอห์นสัน ซึ่งพูดถึง โมโน แวมไพร์ และการเข้าร่วมแข่ง ABL ในปีนี้ ในบริบทของบทสนทนา
หลังจากนั้น ทาง ABL ก็ได้มีการปล่อยทีเซอร์ช่วงบ่ายวันที่ 29 (อ่านบทความว่าด้วยการวิเคราะห์ทีเซอร์นั้นได้ ที่นี่เลยจ๊า) ซึ่งก็มีโลโก้ของทีม โมโน แวมไพร์ ให้เห็นวับๆ แวมๆ ก่อนที่สุดท้ายทาง ASEANSports จะออกบทความยืนยันว่า โมโน แวมไพร์ จะเข้าร่วมการแข่งขัน ABL ครั้งนี้.
เอาละ เข้าใจว่า มันยังไม่มีประกาศอย่างเป็นทางการ จากทั้งทางฝั่ง โมโน แวมไพร์ หรือ ทางลีก ABL เอง… แต่ก็คาดการณ์กันไว้ว่า อีกไม่นานก็น่าจะมีการออกมาแถลงชี้แจงในไม่ช้า
แล้วทำไมต้องสนใจใยดีกับเรื่องนี้ด้วย ทำไมต้องแคร์ด้วยว่า โมโน แวมไพร์ จะกลับมาเล่นใน ABL?
ถ้า โมโน แวมไพร์ ประกาศ เข้าร่วม ABL มันน่าจะส่งผลคล้ายกับตอนที่ CLS Knights ประกาศเข้าร่วม ABL ด้วยทั้งคู่ที่เป็นประเทศที่มีวัฒนธรรมทางบาสเกตบอลที่ใหญ่พอๆ กันทั้งคู่ การที่ทั้งสองชาติกลับมามีทีมเข้าร่วมการแข่งขัน ABL ครึ่งนี้ จึงเป็นเรื่องที่น่าสนใจพอสมควร
ในกรณีของ โมโน แวมไพร์ นั้น เข้าร่วมใน ABL มาแล้ว เมื่อสองฤดูกาลก่อนหน้านี้ เพราะฉะนั้น การมาร่วมแข่งครั้งนี้ น่าจะเรียกว่าการ “กลับมา” มากกว่าการเข้าร่วมแข่ง
ประเทศไทย ก็ ถือว่าเป็นประเทศหนึ่งที่มีความหวังใน ABL มากพอสมควร (แม้ว่าความต่อเนื่องของทีมที่ส่งแข่งขาดตอนไปบ้าง) เพราะฉะนั้น การที่ได้เห็น โมโน แวมไพร์ กลับมาร่วมเล่นใน ABL ครั้งนี้ ถือว่าเป็นเรื่องที่น่าติดตามจริงๆ
จากที่เล่นใน ABL ครั้งที่ผ่านมา (ที่จบด้วยอันดับที่ 5 จากสถิติชนะ 3 แพ้ 17) โมโน แวมไพร์ ก็ได้พัฒนามาเรื่อยๆ จนถือว่าเป็นทีมระดับชั้นนำของภูมิภาคได้แล้ว นอกจากจะเป็นแชมป์รายการ ไทยแลนด์บาสเกตบอลลีก มา 3 สมัยติดกันแล้ว โมโน แวมไพร์ ยังเป็นทีมตัวแทนจากประเทศไทยทีมแรกในรอบเกือบ 2 ทศวรรษ ที่ได้เข้าร่วมแข่งขันในรรายการบาสชิงแชมป์สโมสรเอเชีย อีกทั้งยังชนะมาแล้ว 2 เกมและมีโอกาสที่จะจบด้วยอันดับที่ 5 อีกด้วย รายชื่อผู้เล่นของทีม โมโน แวมไพร์ นั่นเต็มไปด้วยผู้เล่นดีกรีทีมชาติ อีกทั้งยังมีผู้เล่นต่างชาติฝีมือดีอย่าง เรจจี้ จอห์นสัน, ไมค์ ซิงเกิลแทรี่, กับ เจสัน บริกแมน ซึ่งมาด้วยกันตลอดทั้งปีนี้อีกด้วย
แฟนๆ บาสไทยก็จะได้เห็นนักกีฬาระดับท็อปของประเทศไทย เจอกับ นักกีฬาระดับท็อปของประเทศอื่นๆ ในบรรยากาศการแข่งขันที่เข้มข้นตลอดช่วงเวลาการแข่งขัน 6 เดือน แฟนๆ ABL ประเทศอื่นๆ ก็จะได้เห็นการดวลกันของผู้เล่นที่ไม่ได้ดูเมื่อปีที่ผ่านมาด้วย
แล้วเราควรจะคาดหวังอะไรจาก โมโน แวมไพร์ใน ABL ครั้งนี้บ้างละ?
หวังว่าจะมี โมโน แวมไพร์ เกิร์ล สิ!
…จริงจังหน่อยก็ได้ การที่มีทีม โมโน แวมไพร์ ใน ABL แปลว่า เราจะได้เห็นทีมจาก ABL เล่นในสนาม Stadium29 ซักที ตอนแรกสนาม Stadium29 มีแผนคาดการณ์ว่าจะสร้างเสร็จตั้งแต่ฤดูกาลที่ โมโน แวมไพร์ นั้นเล่นใน ABL ครั้งก่อนแล้ว แต่สร้างเสร็จไม่ทัน ก็เลยต้องเลื่อนการเปิดใช้งานไปก่อน
ที่สำคัญที่สุดก็คือ โมโน แวมไพร์ น่าจะเป็นทีมที่ดีกว่าทีมที่ปิดซีซั่นด้วยสถิติเพียง 3-17 แน่ๆ ถ้าหากไม่มีอะไรเปลี่ยนแปลง โมโน แวมไพร์ จะคงยังมีผู้เล่นตัวท็อปอย่าง “บาส” กานต์ณัฐ เสมอใจ, “เจโอ” รัชเดช เครือทิวา และ “ปาล์ม” ดรงค์พันธ์ อภิรมย์วิไลชัย ซึ่งทั้งสามคนต่างก็ทำผลงานได้ดีใน ABL ครั้งที่ผ่านๆ มา
แต่สิ่งที่น่าติดตามยิ่งกว่า คือ การที่จะได้ดู “เป้” ชิตชัย อนันติ กับ “บิ๊ก” ธีรวัฒน์ จันทะจร เต็มๆ ทั้งฤดูกสล ในบทบาทที่ยิ่งใหญ่กว่าเดิม
ในฤดูกาลที่แล้วใน ABL ของ โมโน แวมไพร์ นั้น เป้ ชิตชัย เข้ามาเสริมทีม ช่วงท้ายฤดูกาลแล้วก็เป็นตัวทำแต้มที่น่ากลัวทันที การที่โมโน แวมไพร์ อาจจะได้ใส่ชื่อของเป้ ชิตชัย ในรายชื่อทีมตั้งแต่ต้นฤดูกาลนี้ จึงน่าติดตามผลว่าจะสร้างผลงานได้เหมือนเดิมหรือไม่
บิ๊ก ธีรวัฒน์ เองก็เป็นคนที่มาเสริมทีม โมโน แวมไพร์ ทีหลังใน ABL ปีนั้น แต่ไม่ได้มีบทบาทเท่ากับ เป้ ชิตชัย เนื่องจากเล่นในตำแหน่งวงใน ที่ใช้ไปกับการเล่นตัว World Import ทั้งสองคนเป็นส่วนมาก
แต่ช่วงหลังมานี้ ธีรวัฒน์ มีการฉายฟอร์มที่ดีมากขึ้นเรื่อยๆ กับการเล่นทีมชาติ และ น่าจะทำให้เขาเป็นผู้เล่นที่เสริมความแข็งแกร่งได้อย่างน่ากลัวให้กับทีม โมโน แวมไพร์ ในการเล่น ABL รอบนี้
นอกจากนี้ ยังมีการคาดการณ์เพิ่มเจิมอีกว่า โมโน แวมไพร์ ยังพร้อมที่จะขนสามตัว Import เจสัน บริกแมน, ไมค์ ซิงเกิลแทรี่, และ เรจจี้ จอห์นสัน มาเล่นใน ABL อีกด้วย ซึ่งจะทำให้โมโน แวมไพร์เป็นหนึ่งทีมที่มีตัวอิมพอร์ทที่แทบไม่ต้องปรับความเข้ากันได้ภายในทีมเลย เพราะเล่นด้วยกันมาตั้งแต่ต้นปีที่ผ่านมานี้แล้ว
สรุปว่านี้ จริงจังแล้วใช่ไหม เรื่อง โมโน แวมไพร์ เล่นใน ABL เนี่ย?
เตรียมตัวเตรียมใจกันได้เลย กับเรื่องนี้ ไม่น่ามีพลาด
รอติดตามการประกาศอย่างเป็นทางการเร็วๆ นี้ และ รอติดตาม ASEAN Basketball League ได้เลย โดยจะเริ่มต้นการแข่งขันวันที่ 17 พฤศจิกายนนี้
