SEABA Championship 2017 Preview: Indonesia

The fun thing about Indonesia and international basketball tournaments is the anticipation of what kind of roster they might send.

After sending their own version of a “cadet” squad in SEABA Championship 2015 and getting massacred, Indonesia sent a full-force squad to the SEA Games 2015 and came away with an entertaining duel in the Gold Medal game against the Philippines.

Even though they lost, Indonesia firmly put a stamp on their claim as the Philippines biggest threat.

…then they sent a confusing squad of not-as-good players to the SEABA Stankovic Cup 2016 which got butchered again so people kind of get confused what to expect.

While the Philippines were slowly building up the news that they were to send their A-Team to the SEABA Championship and Thailand were grooming up their own talent pool, Indonesia seemingly decided that maybe they should take this thing seriously this time. Sometime as late as December, the Indonesia National Team called on a training camp comprised of the best of the best in Indonesia (including Naturalized players Jamarr Johnson and Anthony Hargroves).

It was certainly a good sign for Indonesia basketball fans that they would indeed be getting somewhere close to their best team in the SEABA Championship.

…of course, it kind of sucks that the IBL dragged on for so long, leaving the National Team with a whopping two days of training camp before the start of the tournament.

While Indonesia still has their eyes set on SEA Games more than SEABA (like most other ASEAN countries, for some baffling reason), as evident from their allowed preparation time, it’s good to see that they are at least willing to field a full-force squad in this tournament.

Indonesia National Team Roster

Interesting.

As mentioned earlier, the SEA Games 2015 Indonesia National Team squeezed out a close game against the Gilas Cadets in the title game. Sure, this Philippines National Team will be miles better than that team but at least Indonesia is doing the right thing but holding onto that core and adding on in some areas. Seven players remain from that SEA Games squad on this team (Wisnu, Wuysang, Sitepu, Sandy, Adhi, Indrawan, Prastawa) and traded in for some youth and one BIG addition.

Let’s break it down:

GUARDS:

Mario Wuysang (CLS Knights): 25.5 MPG, 7.6 PPG, 6.0 APG, 3.3 RPG
Andakara Prastawa (W88.News Aspac): 27.5 MPG, 12.1 PPG, 4.2 APG, 1.4 SPG
Hardianus (Satria Muda Pertamina): 21.9 MPG, 4.2 PPG, 4.3 APG

I wonder what Coach Wahyu (I hope I am referring to him correctly) does at the point guard position. Does he lead off with Wuysang, who also leads his club (CLS Knights) in the IBL? Or does he finally hands the keys over to the 24-year-old Prastawa?

Wuysang is an Indonesia National Team legend and can still hold his own despite coming into the tournament as the oldest player in the pool at thirty-frickin’-eight-years-old. Don’t let the age fool you though, Wuysang can still ball and he plays a wise game that doesn’t require young legs to begin with. Indonesia might be getting younger as a whole, which is why they will need Wuysang to lead them forward.

Prastawa is a great talent for Indonesia but was stuck behind Wuysang, Wisnu, and Enguio on the SEA Games squad which gave him a pretty small role to work with. With Enguio gone and Wuysang aging another year, it should finally be time for the 2013 NBL Rookie Of the Year and 2-time Sixth Player of the Year to finally get more of the shine. Indonesia has to focus on building towards the future too, and Prastawa is going to be a huge part of that.

Rounding up the guard pool is Hardianus. A level-headed point guard who does a good job of controlling tempo, but don’t expect to see him much as he can’t create much of his own offense as other options Indonesia has at the lead guard spot. Hardianus is slight above 2.0 assist-to-turnover ratio in the IBL and that could be valuable for Indonesia when they want to slow things down.

WINGS:

Arki Dikania Wisnu (Satria Muda Pertamina): 19.8 MPG, 10.0 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 3.4 APG
Sandy Febriansyakh Kurniawan (CLS Knights): 24.4 MPG, 8.1 PPG, 31 3P%
Abraham Damar Grahita (W88.News Aspac): 23.3 MPG, 12.2. PPG, 3.6 RPG, 42 3P%

Wisnu did have his shining moments in the SEA Games 2015, but it still felt like he still left a bit to be desired. It often felt like there was still a lot more he could do… even though he was already do a lot already.

I got to watch my first IBL game this past week and I got to see Wisnu accept his IBL MVP award. He didn’t take over the game as one would expect from an MVP, but displayed how he was the heart and soul of the team. His made shots would ignite a certain fire in his team mates and get the crowds roudy. Wisnu might not put up monster numbers in the SEABA 2017, but I feel that his presence will be felt as the center piece that holds the team together.

One thing that has always stood out from the Indonesia National Team in SEA Games 2015 was the skinny dude who looked like a junky with the best name ever: Sandy.

Sandy is a gunner, nothing more, nothing less. His role on the team is to get open and fire away. He certainly has the licence to shoot from Coach Wahyu and he’ll be assuming the same role in the National Team for sure. His three-point shooting will be crucial because if he starts connecting, it will open up the floor for the Indonesia big men to pound down into.

Diftha Pratama and Abraham Damar will most likely not be assuming large roles. I’ll admit that I’ve never watched any of them play, but their stats suggest that they can be called upon to add a shooter on the floor.

Damar (21) is the youngest player on the squad, and it’ll be interesting to see if Indonesia will invest in his future after a successful IBL campaign playing alongside Prastawa at Aspac Jakarta.

Big Men:

Christian Sitepu (Satria Muda Pertamina): 18.7 MPG, 6.6 PPG, 5.1 RPG
Adhi Prasetyo Putra (Pelita Jaya): 24.1 MPG, 9.4 PPG, 7.9 RPG (Season 2015-2016)
Ponsianus Nyoman Indrawan (Pelita Jaya): 24.8 MPG, 7.8 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 2.5 APG
Kevin Yonas Sitorus (Satria Muda Pertamina): 20.6 MPG, 4.8 PPG, 6.3 RPG

Indonesia has an interesting collection of big men to work with and this crop of talent could be their advantage among other teams in the pool.

Sitepu or “Dodo” is one of the most recognizable names in Indonesia basketball. At 6’6″ with a strong and sturdy frame, Sitepu has been a solid rock in the paint for Indonesia. He’s on the National Team again this year as he almost turns 31, which is just around the tail-end of his physical peak. Offense is not Sitepu’s strong spot and Indonesia will be expecting more from his versatile defense.

If we’re talking about offense down low, Indonesia might look to turn to their prized gem, Adhi Pratama Prasetyo Putra. The MVP of the 2014-2015 NBL (Indonesia’s former local league) at only 22 years of age and followed that up with a solid season in 2015-2016.

Things didn’t start out well for Adhi in 2017, after he suffered a right knee injury in the National Team training camp causing him to miss out a large chunk of the IBL regular season. He made a strong comeback and eventually won the IBL title with Pelita Jaya, his first ever.

Adhi is a bruising big man with a wide frame. He’s a traditional back-to-basket center and he loves pounding down defenders on the block before making his move into the basket. In a modern basketball world where banging big men are a dying breed, it’s been fun to watch Adhi do his thing.

While Adhi was injured for the start of the IBL season, Ponsianus Indrawan was holding down the fort down low for their club team. He’s not an explosive player that will fill up a highlight reel, but he does well to set his team mates up and get his own.

Kevin Yonas Sitorus rounds up the big man line up as a part of the Next Generation of Indonesia Basketball. Still at a young age of 22, Sitorus has plenty of potential to fill in and he’ll look raw at times. So far as I’ve seen in the IBL Finals, it seems like he’s been developing confidence to shoot the long range shot. He’s never shot more than twice in a game for the past two entire seasons and then suddenly breaks into the IBL playoffs jacking 4-5 threes per game. If he has got that part of the game added to his arsenal, expect to see the young gun surprising some people in SEABA.

Naturalized Player:

Jamarr Johnson (Free Agent): 26.0 MPG, 11.6 PPG, 8.6 RPG, 2.3 APG

You know what? I get it. He’s not Andray Blatche. He didn’t even go to an NCAA Division 1 school.

Are we hyping up Jamarr Johnson too much?

And my answer is no. Why would we not hype up Jamarr Johnson this much? Sure he’s not a local player and he doesn’t have a storied pedigree to gawk at but still…

He’s proven that he can play well and excel in ASEAN level talent (as the MVP and ROY of the IBL 2015-2016) and at this point, that’s enough for the Indonesia team to consider for now. No need to put him on the Andray Blatche standard for now.

Johnson won’t be completely dominant like what Andray Blatche would be (a 100% committed and focused Andray Blatche that is), but he will be among the elite players in this tournament nonetheless.

Strength(s)

It’s like Indonesia is the exact opposite of how Thailand is built to play. They are big. They play physical. They are loaded with veterans. And that’s what is going to get them wins in this tournament.

If Indonesia can keep a game in a half-court set pace, they have a decent chance to beat anyone in this tournament.

Weakness(es)

They are going to be quite slow though, which is a bit worrisome since the other top two contending teams are set to run, run, and run.

Indonesia’s ball main ball handlers (Wuysang/Wisnu) aren’t going to be pushing the ball at break neck speeds and the forwards they have aren’t exactly built for bursting out in the open court.

An ideal line up that would pit Johnson/Sitepu/Adhi in the front court would make them pretty vulnerable should the opposing team succeed in connecting on that lead pass.

Best Case Scenario (as told in dramatic fashion)

Adhi Pratama roars as he see the ball fall down into the basket. A whistle follows accordingly to signal that a foul was committed and Adhi will be going to the line for one more free throw. He’s greeted with enthusiasm from his team mates in a series of chest and fist bumps. Junmar Fajardo can’t believe it as he picks up his 5th and final foul.

Ahdi should feel ecstatic and he certainly was, as were his team mates.

With only 20 seconds left in the game, that And-1 basket puts Indonesia up ahead of the Philippines by 5 points.

The Indonesian big man calmly goes to the line and flashes his bright-red mouth guard before sinking the free-throw.

The Philippines get an open attempt at a three-point shot, but it clangs out and their hopes are extinguished as Mario Wuysang sinks the free throws after the mandatory foul.

In the last game of the tournament, Indonesia edges out the Philippines for the title and books a spot to FIBA Asia Cup and the scene of ASEAN basketball changes forever.

Worst Case Scenario (as told in dramatic fashion)

This wasn’t the way it was suppose to be. This isn’t why Indonesia sent their top players to the SEABA Championship, Mario Wuysang thought to himself while watching Chitchai Ananti glide in for another fastbreak layup.

The lead was up to 13 now and with less than a minute to go, a comeback was unlikely especially with the momentum of the game swinging completely to Thailand. Wuysang brought the ball up and tried to get the ball inside to Sitepu, but once again found it hard to get a clear passing lane.

They eventually had to settle with another forced three-point shot from Sandy which was once again off target.

The Thais would run down the clock as the Indonesians could only look back and wonder if things would have been better with more time to prepare.

Then again, there’s always the SEA Games to look forward to, right?

Overview

This might seem like something very unpatriotic to say, but I feel like this Indonesia National Team is slightly a step ahead of Thailand.

They have a loaded veteran core with size and one legitimate Trump card in Jamarr Johnson.

While it’s still obvious they look at the SEABA Championship as more of a “trial run” for the SEA Games (2 days of training camp heading into the tournament? yeesh), that still should be enough to solidify their status as a contender in this playing field.

ในรายการแข่งชิงแชมป์ SEABA เมื่อปี 2015 ทีมชาติอินโดนีเซียได้ส่งทีมที่เรียกได้ว่า เป็นทีมชุดเล็ก ที่ประกอบด้วยดาวระดับมหาวิทยาลัยไปแข่ง…แล้วก็โดนไล่ต้อนไม่เป็นท่ามา ต่อมาในรายการ SEA Games 2015 พวกเขาก็เปลี่ยนมาเป็นจัดเต็มอัตราศึก แล้วผลออกมาก็คือ ได้ดวลกับทีมชาติฟิลิปปินส์ในเกมชิงเหรียญทองอย่างสนุกสนาน

ถึงแม้ว่าพวกเขาจะแพ้ก็จริง แต่หลังจากเกมนั้นทีมชาติอินโดนีเซีย ก็ได้ว่าขึ้นแท่นที่ใกล้จะไล่ตามทีมชาติฟิลิปปินส์ทันอีกทีมหนึ่ง

…แล้วก็เลยเกิดความงงงวยในรายการต่อมาคือ SEABA Stankovic Cup 2016 ที่ทีมชาติอินโดส่งผู้เล่นที่เรียกว่าน่าจะชุดสอง หรือ ชุดสามเลยด้วยซ้ำ ทำให้โดนยำเละเทะกลับบ้านอีกครั้ง ปล่อยให้คนดูคนติดตามสงสัยกันต่อไปว่า พวกเอ็งจะเอายังไงกันแน่

พอมาในรอบการเตรียมทีมครั้งนี้ ขณะที่ทีมชาติฟิลิปปินส์กำลังปั้นกระแสข่าวว่าจะส่งทีมชุดใหญ่เข้าแข่งขัน อีกทั้งทีมชาติก็เตรียมขุนกำลังศึกอย่างเข้มข้น ทีมชาติอินโดก็เหมือนจะตื่นตัวขึ้นมาซักทีว่า เออ งานนี้ เอาจริงหน่อยดีกว่า
และในช่วงเดือนธันวาคม ทีมชาติอินโดได้เริ่มเคลื่อนตัวเป็นทีมแรก ในการเตรียมทีม โดยมีการเรียกผู้เล่นชุดนึง มาเข้าค่ายฝึกซ้อมเตรียมทีม ซึ่งเรียกแต่ผู้เล่นระดับหัวกะทิของประเทศ (รวมไปถึงสองชาวอเมริกันที่ได้รับการโอนสัญชาติมา คือ จามาร์ จอห์นสัน กับ แอนโธนี่ ฮาร์โกรฟส์)

เป็นเรื่องที่น่ายินดีกับแฟนๆ บาสอินโดนีเซีย ที่จะได้เห็นทีมชาติชุดใหญ่ จัดเต็มลงแข่งขันอีกซักที

…แต่แล้วก็ เป็นเรื่องน่าเสียดายนิดหน่อย ที่ลีกภายในประเทศอย่าง IBL ลากยาวมาจนเหลือเวลาให้ทีมชาติซ้อมก่อนแข่งอีกทีก็เพียง 2 วันเท่านั้น

การเตรียมทีมในรูปแบบนี้ ก็แน่นอนแหละ แสดงให้เห็นว่า พวกเขายังว่าราคากับ รายการ SEA Games มากกว่า (เหมือนประเทศอื่นๆ ใน ASEAN  นั่นแหละ แต่ไม่เข้าใจจริงๆ ว่าทำไม) แต่อย่างน้อยก็ได้เห็นเตรียมทีมขุมกำลังมาเต็มที่แบบนี้ ก็ยังพอชื่นใจบ้าง

น่าสนใจแหะ

อย่างที่กล่าวข้างต้น ทีมชาติอินโดนีเซียชุดซีเกมส์เองก็ ไล่ต้อนทีมชาติฟิลิปปินส์ได้อยู่เหมือนกัน ในเกมชิงเหรียญทอง ถึงแม้ว่าท้ายที่สุดจะแพ้เหมือนกัน และ ทีมชาติฟิลิปปินส์ชุดที่จะเข้าร่วมแข่งในครั้งนี้ จะเก่งกว่ารอบที่แล้วหลายเท่า แต่อย่างน้อยทีมชาติอินโดนีเซียก็ยังทำได้ดี ในการรักษาแกนหลักเดิมไว้ แล้วเสริมในจุดที่เสริมได้
ทีมชาติชุดนี้ จะมีผู้เล่นที่กลับมาจากชุดที่แล้วถึง 7 คน (วิสนุ, วุยซาง, สิเตปุ, แซนดี้, อาดี้, อินดราวัน, และ ปราสตาวา) แล้วเสริมเลือดใหม่เข้าไป พร้อมกับ อีกหนึ่งหน่อที่สำคัญมากๆ

ปัญหาอย่างนึงของโค้ชวายู (โค้ชทีมชาติ และ โค้ชทีม เชแอลเอส ไนท์… ไม่รู้เรียกชื่อถูกรึเปล่า 555) คือ เขาจะทำอย่างไร กับตำแหน่งการ์ดจ่ายดี
เขาควรจะเริ่มด้วยการใช้การ์ดโคตรเก๋าอย่าง วุยซาง หรือ จะเริ่มถ่ายบทบาทการนำทัพให้กับ ปราสตาวา ดาวรุ่งวัย 24 ปีมากขึ้น?

ทางวุยซางถือว่าเป็นตำนานระดับชาติของอินโดนีเซีย และ ถึงแม้ว่าอายุอานามจะปาเข้าไป 38 แล้ว (!!!) แต่เขาก็ยังน่าจะทำผลงานได้ในระดับที่น่าพึงพอใจ ถึงจะแก่แค่ไหน แต่ถ้ายังเก๋า และ เล่นบาสสไตล์ฉลาดแบบวุยซาง ก็ไม่ต้องใช้ร่างกายเปลืองเท่าไหร่อยู่แล้ว
ทีมชาติอินโดนีเซียชุดนี้ มีอายุเฉลี่ยรวมแล้วน้อยลงกว่าลุดก่อน เพราะฉะนั้น การที่จะมีผู้นำมากประสบการณ์อย่างวุยซางจึงเป็นสิ่งที่จำเป็น

สำหรับปราสตาวา ก็ปฏิเสธไม่ได้ว่าเป็นนักบาสมากฝีมือก็จริง แต่บทบาทถูกกลบจากทาง วุยซาง, วิสนุ, และ เองเกียว ใน SEA Games ที่ผ่านมา บทบาทจึงน้อยกว่าที่คิดไปหน่อย
มารอบนี้ ไม่มีเองเกียวแล้ว และ วุยซาง ก็แก่ลงอีก เพราะฉะนั้น ปราสตาวา น่าจะมีบทบาทที่มากขึ้นมาได้ในที่สุด เหมาะสมกับผู้เล่นที่มีดีกรีระดับ NBL Rookie 0f The Year 2013 และ Sixth Man of the Year สองสมัยติดๆ กัน
ทีมชาติอินโดนีเซียต้องมองไว้สำหรับการสร้างอนาคตวางรากฐานสำหรับชุดต่อๆ ไปด้วย ซึ่งแน่นอนว่า ปราสตาวา ต้องเป็นศูนย์กลางของทีมชาติในอนาคตแน่นอน

สุดท้าย ในตำแหน่งการ์ด ก็คือ ฮาร์ดิอานุส ซึ่งเป็นการ์ดจ่ายสายนิ่งๆ คุมจังหวะเกม เขาอาจจะไม่ได้ลงเล่นบ่อยๆ นัก เพราะยังไม่สามารถสร้างจังหวะการทำแต้มของตัวเองอย่างคงที่ เท่ากับตัวอื่นๆ แต่อย่างไรก็ตาม เขาก็เป็นการ์ดที่ครองบอลได้ดี มีอัตราการทำแอสสิสต่อเทิร์นโอเวอร์มากกว่า 2 ซึ่งเป็นทักษะที่มีค่าแน่นอน ในจังหวะที่จะดึงเกมให้ช้าลง

อาร์กี้เป็นคนที่โดดเด่นออกมาคนหนึ่งในรายการ SEA Games 2015 แต่ตอนนี่นยังมีความรู้สึกว่า เขาน่าจะทำได้ดีกว่านี้อีก ทั้งๆ ที่เขาก็ทำอะไรหลายๆ อย่างให้ทีมได้ดีแล้ว… แต่บางทีก็ยังรู้สึกว่า มันยังไม่พอ

ผมเพิ่งได้ไปดูเกมการแข่งขัน IBL ครั้งแรกในชีวิต เมื่อสุดสัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมา และได้ดู อาร์กี้ รับรางวัล MVP ประจำซีซั่นที่ผ่านมา ถึงแม้ว่า ในเกมที่ผมได้ไปดูนั้น อาร์กี้ อาจจะไม่ได้ทำแต้มกระจุยกระจายสมราคา MVP แต่เขาแสดงให้เห็นถึงความเป็นจิตวิญญาณของทีมออกมาได้เต็มเปี่ยม พอเขายิงลงทีไร ก็เหมือนจุดประกายทั้งกองเชียร์ และ เพื่อนร่วมทีมให้ฮึกเหิมขึ้นมาทุกครั้ง
อาร์กี้ อาจจะไม่ได้ทำสถิติได้อย่างโดดเด่นในชิงแชมป์ SEABA ครั้งนี้ แต่ผมรู้สึกว่า บทบาทของเขาน่าจะเห็นชัดกว่า ในฐานะศูนย์รวมจิตใจมากกว่า

อีกสิ่งหนึ่งที่ผมยังติดตราตรึงใจจากทีมชาติอินโดชุดปี 2015 คือ พ่อหนุ่มผอมกะหร่องผมยาวท่าทียียวนเหมือนขี้ยา ที่ชื่อเก๋ๆ ว่า แซนดี้

แซนดี้ เป็นมือปืนประจำทีม และหน้าที่ของเขามีแค่นั้นจริงๆ คือการส่องไกล แน่นอนว่า ย่ิงทีมชาติชุดนี้ มี โค้ชวาห์ยู (ที่เป็นโค้ชทีมเชแอลเอสด้วย) เป็นคนสั่งการ ยิ่งมั่นใจได้ว่า แซนดี้ ได้รับอนุญาตให้ลั่นไกลอย่างสม่ำเสมอแน่นอน ถ้าหากว่าเขาสามารถยิงลงติดต่อกันได้ มันจะเปิดพื้นที่ให้ตัวใหญ่ๆ ของทีมเล่นมากขึ้น ซึ่งเป็นจุดแข็งของทีมชาติอินโดชุดนี้

ส่วน ดิฟธา ปราตามา กับ อับราฮัม ดามาร์ กราฮิตา ดูแล้วไม่น่าจะได้รับบทบาทมากเท่าไหร่ แต่ก็ต้องยอมรับว่า ผมไม่เคยดูทั้งคู่ลงเล่นเกมจริงๆ เลยซักเกม อย่างไรก็ตาม สถิติการลงเล่นของทั้งสองคน ทำให้ดูเหมือนว่า น่าจะเป็นสายเน้นยิงไกลอีกเช่นเดียวกันกับแซนดี้

ดามาร์ กราฮิตา (อายุ 21 ปี) เป็นผู้เล่นที่อายุน้อยที่สุดในทีมชาติอินโดชุดนี้ และ หลังจากที่เขาทำผลงานได้ดีคู่กับ ปราสตาวา ในทีม แอสปัค จาการ์ตา ก็คิดว่าน่าสนใจดีที่ทีมชาติอินโดจะมาลงทุนลองดูว่า เขาจะสามารถทำได้ดีกับระดับทีมชาติมากขนาดไหน

ต้องบอกเลยว่าตัววงในของอินโดนีเซียชุดนี้ น่าสนใจจริงๆ และ น่าจะเป็นจุดได้เปรียบทีมอื่นๆ ที่เข้าแข่ง

สิเตปู หรือ “โดโด้” เป็นนักบาสที่คุ้นหน้าคุ้นตากันพอควร ในบรรดานักบาสอินโดนีเซียทั้งหมด ด้วยความสูงสองเมตร และร่างกายที่แข็งแกร่งบึกบึน ทำให้สิเตปู เป็นตัวหลักที่รากฐานมั่นคงให้กับทีม ปีนี้เขาก็ติดทีมชาติอีกครั้ง ด้วยวัย 31 ปี ถือว่าเป็นช่วงกลางๆ เกือบปลายจุดสูงสุดจองศักยภาพทางร่างกาย
เกมบุก อาจจะไม่ใช่จุดเด่นของ สิเตปู เท่าไหร่นัก แต่เขาเป็นคนที่สามารถป้องกันได้หลากหลายตำแหน่ง และป้องกันได้ดีอีกด้วย

ถ้าจะพูดถึงเกมบุกละก้อ ต้องไปดูที่เพชรเม็ดงามอีกคนของวงการบาสอินโด นั่นคือ อาดี้ ปราตามา ปราเซ็ตโย ปูตรา เซนเตอร์วัย 24 ปีคนนี้ เป็น MVP ของลีกอินโดมาตั้งแต่อายุ 22 ปี ในฤดูกาล 2014-2015 แล้วก็ยังทำผลงานได้ดีอย่างต่อเรื่องในฤดูกาลที่ 2015-2016 อีกด้วย

แต่อาดี้ ดวงไม่ค่อยดีเท่าไหร่ และเริ่มต้นปี 2017 ด้วยอาการบาดเจ็บเข่าจากการซ้อมทีมชาติ และ ทำให้อดลงแข่งขันในช่วงต้นฤดูกาล IBL
เขาสามารถพักฟื้นกลับมาได้ทัน และช่วยให้ทีม เปลิตา จายา ของตัวเอง คว้าแชมป์ IBL เป็นครั้งแรกในประวัติศาสตร์

อาดี้เป็นเซนเตอร์ร่างใหญ่ ฐานกว้าง และเล่นในสไตล์ผู้เล่นวงในแบบดั้งเดิม ซึ่ง ในยุคสมัยที่บาสกำลังพัฒนากระจายออกวงนอกกันหมด การที่ได้เห็นผู้เล่นสไตล์แบบ อาดี้ ยังมีประสิทธิภาพได้ ก็ถือว่าเป็นสิ่งที่แปลกตาดี

ช่วงที่ อาดี้ พักฟื้นจากอาการบาดเจ็บในช่วงต้นฤดูกาลนั้น ทีมเปลิตา จายา ต้องพึ่งพาพลังของ ปอนสิยานุส อินดราวัน คอยคุมวงในให้กับทีม เปลิตา จายา
เขาไม่ใช่ผู้เล่นที่หวือหวา และ คงไม่มีไฮไลต์เด็ดๆ มาให้ได้ยลอย่างสม่ำเสมอ แต่เขาทำหน้าที่ได้ดีในการเซ็ทเพื่อนร่วมทีมให้การเล่นไหลลื่น

คนสุดท้ายในรายชื่อผู้เล่นวงใน คือ เควิน โยนัส สิโตรัส ที่เป็นดาวรุ่งอีกคนสำหรับวงการบาสยุคใหม่ของอินโดนีเซีย
ด้วยอายุเพียง 22 ปี สิโทรัส ยังอาจจะดูเก้ๆ กังๆ ในบางจังหวะ แต่ก็มีอีกหลายจังหวะที่แสดงให้เหนถึงศักยภาพความเป็นไปได้ เท่าที่ได้เห็นมาในรอบชิง IBL ก็เห็นเขาเริ่มมีความมั่นใจที่จะยิงระยะไกลมากขึ้น จากที่แทบไม่ได้ยิงระยะไกลเลย ในฤดูกาลปกติ กลายเป็นมาสอยลูกยาวเกมละ 4-5 เม็ด ในรอบเพลย์ออฟ
ถ้าเขาสามารถทำให้มันกลายเป็นอาวุธที่แผลงฤทธิได้คงที่ เขาอาจจะเป็นตัวที่ทำเซอไพร์สในรายการนี้ ก็ได้

เออ เข้าใจนะ ว่า ไม่ใช่ระดับ อันเดร แบลทช์ แถมยังไม่ได้เล่นบาสในระดับ NCAA Division 1 ด้วยซ้ำ

หรือว่า เรากำลังจะ “อวย” จามาร์ จอห์นสัน มากเกินไป?

ส่วนตัวแล้ว ผมคิดว่า ไม่นะ
จะเรียกว่า อวย ก็คงไม่ใช่ ก็รู้อยู่ว่า เขาไม่ใช่คนอินโดแท้ๆ และได้รับการโอนสัญชาติมา และก็รู้ว่าประวัติการเล่นของเขาก็ไม่ได้ดำเดือดเท่าไหร่นัก แต่ก็นะ…

ยังไงซะ เขาก็พิสูจน์มาแล้ว ว่าเขาสามารถเล่นได้อย่างโดดเด่นจริงๆ ในการแข่งขันระดับ ASEAN (ด้วยการเล่นลีก IBL ปีที่ผ่านมา และเป็นได้ทั้ง MVP และ Rookie of the Year) และ ณ จุดๆ นี้ แค่นั้นก็เพียงพอแล้ว สำหรับทีมชาติอินโดนีเซีย ตอนนี้
ไม่มีเหตุจำเป็นอะไร ที่จะต้องเอาไปเทียบกับมาตรฐานที่สูงโข ของ อันเดร แบลทช์ เลย

ใช่ จอห์นสัน อาจจะไม่ได้เป็นตัวคุมเกมทั้งหมดแบบ แบลทช์ แต่ถึงยังไง เขาก็ถือว่าเป็นผู้เล่นระดับสูงในการแข่งขันครั้งนี้อยู่ดี

จุดแข็ง

ดูไปดูมา ทีมชาติอินโดชุดนี้ เหมือนจะเป็นขั้วตรงข้ามกับทีมชาติไทยเลยก็ว่าได้ พวกเขาเน้นบาสตัวใหญ่ เน้นบาสปะทะ และ เน้นผู้เล่นที่มากประสบการณ์ และ จุดเด่นตรงนี้ ที่จะทำให้ได้เปรียบทีมอื่นๆ ในการแข่งขันครั้งนี้

ถ้าทีมชาติอินโดสามารถที่จะชะลอเกมให้เป็นเกมช้าได้ ก็เรียกได้ว่าน่าจะมีสิทธิชนะได้ ทุกทีม ในรายการแข่งขันครั้งนี้

จุดอ่อน

สิ่งที่น่าเป็นห่วงก็คือ พวกเขาจะเป็นทีมที่ช้าเกินไปนี่แหละ ซึ่งยิ่งเป็นปัญหา เพราะสองทีมเต็ง เป็นทีมที่วิ่งกันจ้าละหวั่นมาก

ตัวถือบอลหลักของอินโด (วุยซาง/อาร์กี้) ก็ไม่ใช่ตัวถือบอลที่ชอบดันจังหวะเร็วอยู่แล้ว และ นอกจากนั้น ปีกที่มีอยู่ ก็ไม่ใช่ปีกที่วิ่งพุ่งขึ้นลงรวดเร็วอีกด้วย

รายชื่อ 5 ผู้เล่นที่ดีที่สุด (ในทางหลักการ) ของอินโด จะเป็นแผง จอห์นสัน/สิเตปู/อาดี้ ในส่วนใต้แป้น ซึ่งค่อนข้างช้าแน่นอน และ อาจจะเสียเปรียบมากๆ หากทีมตรงข้ามเปิดบอลจังหวะฟาสเบรกได้สำเร็จอย่างต่อเนื่อง

สมมติฉากจบที่ดีที่สุด (เล่าแบบเว่อร์วังอลังการ)

ทันทีที่เห็นบอลกลิ้งลงห่วงไป อากี้ ปรามาตา ก็ปล่อยเสียงร้องคำรามแสดงความดีใจทันทีพร้อมๆ กับเสียงนกหวีดที่ลั่นแวกอากาศ เพื่อส่งสัญญาณว่า ได้มีการทำฟาวล์ และ อาดี้ จะได้ยิงลูกโทษอีก 1 ครั้ง
เพื่อร่วมทีมวิ่งเข้ามากรูแสดงความดีใจกับอาดี้ เพื่อฉลองกับการที่ จุนมาร์ ฟาฮาร์โด เซนเตอร์ตัวเก่งของทีมชาติฟิลิปปินส์ได้รับฟาวล์ครบ 5 ครั้ง

อาดี้หลุดคำรามออกมา ด้วยความรู้สึกดีใจที่มันเอ่อล้นออกมา ซึ่งแน่นอนว่ามันก็ควรรู้สึกแบบนั้น เหมือนกับที่เพื่อนร่วมทีมคนอื่นๆ รู้สึกเหมือนกัน

ด้วยเวลาที่เหลือเพียง 20 วินาทีในการแข่งขัน การทำคะแนนเมื่อซักครู่ ทำให้ทีมชาติอินโดขึ้นนำทีมชาติฟิลิปปินส์ออกไปเป็น 5 แต้ม

เซนเตอร์ร่างยักษ์ชาวอินโดโชว์ฟันปลอมสีแดงสด ยื่นออกมา ตามสไตล์ก่อนยิงลูกโทษ และก็ซัดซวบไปแบบไม่โดนห่วงแม้แต่นิดเดียว

ทีมชาติฟิลิปปินส์ได้โอกาสในการสอยสามแต้มเพื่อตีตื้นขึ้นมาอีกครั้ง… แต่ก็พลาดโดนห่วงเสียงดังแก้งออกไป ความหวังทั้งหมดที่จะไล่ตามให้ทันดับสิ้นในช่วงต่อมา ด้วยการยิงลูกโทษลงอย่างใจเย็นของ มาริโอ วุยซาง

ในเกมสุดท้ายของรายการแข่งขัน อินโดนีเซียสามารถคว่ำทีมชาติฟิลิปปินส์ได้ ทำให้คว้าแชมป์รายการ แถมคว้าตั๋วไป FIBA Asia ได้อีก
และจากตรงนี้เป็นต้นไป วงการบาส ASEAN ก็จะเปลี่ยนแปลงไปตลอดกาล

สมมติฉากจบที่แย่ที่สุด (เล่าแบบเว่อร์วังอลังการ)

จริงๆ แล้ว มันต้องไม่ใช่แบบนี้สิ ทีมชาติอินโดนีเซียส่งผู้เล่นมาเต็มอัตราศึกขนาดนี้มาในรายการชิงแชมป์ SEABA แล้ว มันต้องไม่ใช่แบบนี้สิ
นั่นคือความคิดที่วนเวียนอยู่ในหัวของ มาริโอ วุยซาง ในจังหวะที่ ชิตชัย อนันติ กำลังหลุดลอยเข้าไปเพื่อวางบอลนิ่มๆ อีกครั้ง

แต้มตอนนี้ ทิ้งห่างไปแล้วถึง 13 แต้ม แล้วเหลือเวลาไม่ถึงนาที การที่จะพลิกเกมกลับมา ดูเป็นเรื่องที่เป็นไปได้ยากแล้ว อีกทั้งโมเมนตัมของเกมทั้งหมดกลายเป็นของทีมชาติไทยไปแล้ว
วุยซาง พาบอลขึ้นมาอีกที แล้วพยายามจ่ายบอลไปให้ถึงสิเตปู… แต่ก็เจอช่วงแขนที่ยาวยืดของทีมชาติไทยบังช่องทางในการส่งหมดเลย

ท้ายสุดก็ต้องไปพึ่งการยิงระยะไกลของ แซนดี้ ที่โดนประกบติด… ซึ่งก็พลาดอีกรอบ เหมือนที่พลาดมาตลอดทั้งเกมวันนี้

ช่วงเวลาที่เหลือ ทางทีมชาติไทยก็เผาเวลาไปจนหมด และทีมชาติอินโด ก็ได้แต่มองย้อนไปคิดว่า ถ้าเรามีเวลาเตรียมทีมมากกว่านี้ จะเป็นยังไง

แต่ก็นั่นแหละ ยังไงซะ เป้าหมายของเราคือการเป็นแชมป์ SEA Games อยู่แล้วนี่

มองภาพรวม

สิ่งที่ผมจะเขียนต่อไปนี้ อาจจะดูเป็นการ “ไม่รักชาติ” ซักเท่าไหร่ แต่ก็ต้องเขียนจริงๆ
ตอนนี้ ผมรู้สึกว่า ทีมชาติอินโดนีเซีย นำหน้าทีมชาติไทยอยู่… อาจจะเล็กน้อย แต่ก็นำหน้าอยู่จริงๆ

พวกเขามีแกนหลักของทีมที่มากประสบการณ์, วงในก็สูงใหญ่กว่า, อีกทั้งยังมี ไพ่ตาย อย่าง จามาร์ จอห์นสัน อีกด้วย และ ถึงแม้ว่า ดูแล้วรายการชิงแชมป์ SEABA ครั้งนี้ เป็นการลองทีมสำหรับ SEA Games มากกว่า (ก็เล่นมีเวลาเตรียมทีมก่อนแข่งแค่ 2 วัน จะเอาอะไรมาก) แต่เท่าที่เห็นมาแล้วนี่ก็สามารถเรียกได้ว่า เป็นทีมเต็งในรายการได้แน่นอน
