Highly Sought Fil-Am Taylor Statham Suits Up for Madgoats

Taylor Statham was one of the most intensely recruited players heading into the TBSL and after keeping his cards close to his chest, Statham is finally revealed to be playing for the Madgoats.

Let’s clear up a few things on Statham and what we know.

1. To much disappointment, Taylor is not related to English action movie star, Jason Statham.
   However, that will not stop me from calling him Taylor “The Transporter” Statham or Taylor “Dekerd Shaw” Statham. (If you don’t get the jokes, you really need to watch more movies. Or I need to get a new sense of humor)
2. Statham will be signing on with the Madgoats as an ASEAN import. Since his grandmother is Filipino, Statham does have ASEAN heritage and could fit in the requirement to play as an ASEAN import as long as he has acquired his Filipino passport (which is the requirement in the TBSL). Last time I spoke with Taylor, he was in the process of getting the documents done, but it seems all the paperwork is finished seeing that the Madgoats have paraded him in the TBSL press conference.
3. Taylor is not an unknown talent. Not by a long shot. He’s been on the Filipino hoops radar for quite a while. He’s even played in a couple of leagues/tournaments in the Philippines already. Mock PBA Drafts have been drooling at the prospect of him playing. Heck, he was even drafted 4th overall in the PBA D-League draft last season!
   However, because of his incomplete paperwork which is required to play in the PBA/PBA D-League, Statham never suited up and thus the Mock drafts continued mocking.
4. Not only is Taylor a pretty well-known talent, he is one heck of a talent too. Standing at 6’6″, Taylor can shoot, can drive, can bring the ball up, can finish in traffic, can rebound the ball, and he can probably mop the floor during timeouts as well. In his senior season at Cal State San Bernardino, he averaged 9.3 points and 5.4 rebounds while starting all 26 games.
5. Speaking of his alumnus, Cal State San Bernardino has a thing about producing talents that find their way to the ASEAN region. Of course, there’s the Filipino legend, Jimmy Alapag. And then there’s Mono Thewphaingarm import, Theron Laudermill. And PBA import (and TBSL import?) Kwame Alexander. Now, Taylor can follow their footsteps and make a name in the region as well.
6. Dude, he fucking beat cancer.
7. While it was the Madgoats who would eventually get to acquire his services, Taylor was pursued by other clubs in the TBSL as well. Both teams had actually met with Statham in the 21st Super Kung Cheung Cup in Hong Kong, but it seemed like the Madgoats had already closed the deal before either team could put in a pitch. Stathem played in the Super Kung Cheung Cup for the Southern California Fukian Association (SCFA) and won the championship there.
   

The Madgoats showed that they are not shy about spinning imports around (Dominic Dar >> Kevin Van Hook >> AJ Mandani, Chris Gabriel >> Jordan Collins) but they also showed that when they strike gold, they can make a fortune (Magnum Rolle).

It might be too early to say anything, but from what I’ve seen so far, Statham does have the potential to be a big hit for the Madgoats this season.

มาไขกระจ่างข้อมูลขอมนุษย์ที่ชื่อว่า เทย์เลอร์ สเตธัม หน่อยดีกว่า

1. โคตรจะเสียใจ ที่เทย์เลอร์นั้น ไม่ได้เป็นญาติกับ นักแสดงหนังแอคชั่นชาวอังกฤษชื่อดัง เจสัน สเตธัม แต่อย่างใด
   อย่างไรก็ตาม ผมก็จะหาช่องทางที่จะใช้ฉายา เทย์เลอร์ “เดอะ ทรานสพอร์เตอร์” สเตธัม ให้ได้อยู่ดี
2. สเตธัม จะเล่นกับ แมดโกทส์ โดยใช้ โควต้า ASEAN Import ซึ่งเขามีเชื้อสายฟิลิปปินส์ มาจากทางย่า จึงน่าจะทำให้สามารถคว้าพาสพอร์ตประเทศฟิลิปปินส์มาได้ (ใน TBSL/TBL ตอนนี้ เงื่อนไขในการเป็น ASEAN Import ยังตัดสินกันอยู่ที่ว่ามีพาสพอร์ตของประเทศในภูมิภาค ASEAN หรือไม่)
   ล่าสุดที่ผมได้คุยกับเทย์เลอร์นั้น เขายังดำเนินเอกสารในการได้พาสพอร์ตไม่เสร็จเรียบร้อย แต่ในเมื่อแมดโกทส์พร้อมที่จะเอาเทย์เลอร์มาโชว์ตัวในงานแถลงข่าว TBSL แล้ว ก็แปลว่า ทุกอย่างน่าจะเรียบร้อยแล้วเสร็จสิ้น
3. เทย์เลอร์ ไม่ใช่นักบาสโนเนมเก็บมาจากข้างทางที่ไหน เขาวนเวียนอยู่ในแวดวงบาสฟิลิปปินส์มาได้สักพักแล้ว อีกทั้งยังเล่นในถ้วยและรายการแข่งขันต่างๆ มาพอสมควรทั้งในนามประเทศฟิลิปปินส์ และ ในประเทศฟิลิปปินส์ เหล่ากูรูดราฟ PBA เองก็ปักเขาไว้อันดับต้นๆ มาตลอด 2 ปีที่ผ่านเช่นกัน
   ในดราฟ PBA D-League ปีที่แล้ว เขายังถูกดราฟไปเล่นในอันดับที่ 4 ด้วยซ้ำ!
   แต่อย่างที่กล่าวข้างต้น…เอกสารทั้งหมดของเทย์เลอร์ ยังไม่ได้ถูกดำเนินการให้เรียบร้อย เพราะฉะนั้น จนถึงตอนนี้ เทย์เลอร์ ก็ยังไม่ได้ลงเล่นใน PBA หรือ แม้แต่ PBA D-League
4. นอกจากจะเป็นที่รู้จักในวงการแล้ว เทย์เลอร์ยังถือว่าเป็นนักบาสฝีมือต้นๆ อีกด้วย ด้วยความสูง 6’6″ เขาสามารถที่จะทำได้ทุกอย่าง ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการยิง หรือ การข้าม หรือ การเข็นบอลขึ้นบุก หรือ การรีบาวด์ เอาจริงๆ ระหว่างพักครึ่งขอเวลานอก ถ้าเขาจะไปถูพื้นสนามด้วย ก็คงไม่แปลกใจเท่าไหร่
   ในการเล่นบาสมหาวิทยาลัยปีสุดท้าย เขาทำเฉลี่ย 9.3 แต้ม และ 5.4 รีบาวด์ อีกทั้งเป็นตัวจริงทั้ง 26 เกม
5. พูดถึงมหาวิทยาลัยแล้ว เทย์เลอร์ เป็นศิษย์เก่าของมหาวิทยาลัย แคลสเตท ซานเบอร์นาร์ดิโน่ ซึ่งกลายเป็มหาวิทยาลัยที่ผลิตฐานกำลังในภูมิภาคนี้ได้เป็นอย่างดี แน่นอนว่า มหาวิทยาลัยนี้ มีชื่อดังๆ ที่ผ่านมาทั้ง ยอดตำนานชาวฟิลิปปินส์ จิมมี่ อาลาปัก อีกทั้งมีอิมพอร์ตของ โมโนทิวไผ่งาม ใน TBL อย่าง เธอรอน ลอเดอร์มิลล์ ยังไม่พอ ยังมีอิมพอร์ต PBA (เอ๊ะ แล้ว Import TBSL ด้วยรึเปล่า) อย่าง คาวาเม่ อเล็กซานเดอร์
   คราวนี้ สเตธัม จะได้ตามรอยพวกพี่ๆแล้ว
6. ให้ตายเถอะ สเตธัม มันคือผู้พิชิต โรคมะเร็งมาแล้วนะเฟ้ย ความแกร่งนี้ต้องการันตี
7. ถึงแม้ว่า ท้ายที่สุดแล้วจะเป็น แมดโกทส์ ที่คว้าตัวไป แต่ เทย์เลอร์เองก็เนื้อหอมไม่ใช่เล่น มีทีมใน TBSL ตอมหึ่งถึงสองทีม ทั้งสองทีมได้พบปะ และพูดคุยกับเจ้าตัว หลังจากที่พบเจอกันในรายการ Super Kung Cheung Cup ที่ Hong Kong แต่ดูเหมือนว่า แมดโกทส์ จะจับเซ็นสัญญาไปเรียบร้อย ก่อนที่อีกสองทีมจะสามารถเจรจาอย่างจริงๆ จังๆ ได้ด้วยซ้ำ

แน่นอนว่า มันยังเร็วไปที่จะยืนยันการันตีอะไรก็ตาม แต่เท่าที่เห็นมาแล้ว สเตธัม มีศักยภาพมากพอ ที่จะเป็นสตาร์ของทีมแมดโกทส์ ในซีซั่นนี้ได้เลย
