Out of nowhere on a random Wednesday afternoon, Bobby Ray Parks Jr. released a twitter video that stated that he will be “coming home”.

The tweet relatively sweep the nation as almost every media outlet took the news and spun their ideas around what Parks meant with this tweet.
“So I heard there’s a team that needed another Filipino to represent the country. Hmm. Well you guys know me well, basta para sa bayan, game ako diyan. [roughly translated in basic knowledge tagalog “just for the people, I’m game”. Correct me if I’m wrong, which I probably am] Wait for me. I’m coming home,” Parks says in the tweet. There aren’t any teams lying around right now that “needed another Filipino to represent the country” other than Alab Pilipinas, so it’s highly likely that the ABL is Parks next destination.
Obviously there’s no official announcement yet and people involved with the team have dodged answering the issue directly, but the signs are pointing towards a Parks/ABL connection.
For those who are not familiar with Parks Jr. and why he requires this much attention from the press:
Parks is a Manila-born basketball player who grew up in Memphis, Tennessee and was at one point the 31st ranked shooting guard in the entire United States of America. He had committed to the Georgia Tech. Family commitments led him back to the Philippines instead where he enjoyed an illustrious collegiate and amateur career.
After that, Parks decided to pursue his dreams of playing in the NBA and entered the NBA draft in 2015. Despite going undrafted, he was able to get invited to the Dallas Mavericks Summer League team. He impressed their staff enough their to get drafted to the Texas Legends in the NBA D-League shortly after. After playing a season in the D-League, parked enter the D-League draft again this year and was drafted by the Weschester Knicks. He didn’t make the opening day roster this season … and all of this has led to the tweet posted above.

So … yeah, Bobby Ray Parks Jr. is a pretty big deal. Parks has played on several Philippines National Team squads (2 SEA Games, 1 SEABA, and FIBA OQT) and his addition to the ABL, if that ever happens, would give the league a nice boost in star talent.
Until it’s officially release (if ever), Bobby Ray Parks Jr. in the ABL is just something left to fantasize … for now.

บ่ายๆ สายๆ ของเมื่อวันพุธที่ผ่านมา อยู่ดีๆ สตาร์บาสฟิลิปปินส์ บ็อบบี้ เรย์ พาร์คส์ ก็ได้ออกมาปล่อยวีดีโอสั้นๆ ในทวิตเตอร์ว่า เขาพร้อมที่จะกลับบ้านแล้ว
การทวีตครั้งนี้ ได้สร้างกระแสภายในแวดวงสื่อฟิลิปปินส์อย่างหนักหน่วง และ แต่ละฝ่ายต่างก็ได้ขบคิดกันว่า จริงๆ แล้ว พาร์คส์ ต้องการจะสื่ออะไร จากวีดีโอคลิปนี้
“(ภาษาอังกฤษ) ผมได้ยินมาว่า มีทีมที่ต้องการชาวฟิลิปปินส์อีกคนมาเพื่อเป็นตัวแทนของประเทศ ฮืมม… ก็นั่นแหละ อย่างที่ทุกคนรู้อยู่แล้ว (ภาษาตากาล็อก แปลแบบหลวมๆ) เพื่อประเทศชาติบ้านเมือง ผมพร้อมอยู่แล้ว (ภาษาอังกฤษ) รอผมหน่อยนะ ผมกำลังจะกลับบ้านแล้ว” นี่คือเนื้อหาในวีดีโอคลิปนี้ของ พาร์คส์ ซึ่งหลายๆ ฝ่ายได้คาดการณ์ว่า “ทีมที่ต้องการชาวฟิลิปปินส์อีกคนมาเพื่อเป็นตัวแทนของประเทศ” นั้น มีความเป็นไปได้สูงว่าจะเป็นทีมอาลับ พิลิพินาส จึงเดากันว่า ASEAN Basketball League น่าจะเป็นเป้าหมายต่อไปของ บ็อบบี้ เรย์ พาร์คส์ จูเนียร์ นั่นเอง
แน่นอนว่า ณ ขณะ นี้ ยังไม่มีประกาศอย่างเป็นทางการ และ ผู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับทุกฝ่ายต่างก็ยังหลีกเลี่ยงที่จะตอบคำถามนี้ตรงๆ แต่ สัญญาณทั้งหมดชี้ไปที่ การมาร่วม ABL ของ พาร์คส์ ใน ซีซั่นนี้
สำหรับใครที่ไม่คุ้ยเคยกับ ชื่อของ พาร์คส์ และ สงสัยว่า ทำไมสื่อต้องมาสนใจไอ้หนุ่มแอ๊คๆ ผมหยิกหยอยคนนี้ ก็ขออธิบายตามนี้นะครับ:
พาร์คส์ นั้นเกิดที่มนิลา ปะรเทศฟิลิปปินส์ แต่ไปโตที่ เมืองเมมฟิส รัฐเทนเนสซี ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา ตอนที่เขาจบการศึกษาระดับมัธยมปลายนั้น เขาก็เป็นถึงชูตติ้งการ์ดอันดับที่ 31 ของทั้งประเทศ และก็ได้ตกลงปลงใจรับทุนการศึกษานักกีฬาที่ จอร์เจีย เทค แต่เกิดมีประเด็นภายในครอบครัว ทำให้เขาต้องกลับมาที่ประเทศฟิลิปปินส์แทน ซึ่งเขาก็ได้เล่นระดับมหาวิทยาลัยที่ฟิลิปปินส์และได้เล่นในลีกสมัครเล่นเช่นเดียวกัน และกวางรางวัลต่างๆ นานา ไปพอสมควร
หลังจากนั้น พาร์คส์ ก็ได้ตัดสินใจที่จะตามฝันที่จะเข้า NBA แล้วได้ประกาศเข้า NBA Draft 2015 ถึงแม้ว่าเขาจะไม่ได้ถูกเลือก แต่เขาก็ได้รับเชิญเล่นในทีมซัมเมอร์ลีกของทีม ดัลลัส มาเวอร์ริคส์ อีกทั้งยังเล่นได้ติดตาพอที่จะถูกดราฟใน NBA D-League อีกด้วยกับทีม เท็กซัส เลเจนด์ส หลังจากที่เล่นจบไปหนึ่งซีซั่น พาร์คส์ก็กลับไปเข้าดราฟของ NBA D-League อีกครั้ง และได้ถูกเลือกเข้าทีม เวสเชสเตอร์ นิกส์ หากแต่ว่าคราวนี้ กลับถูกตัดตัวออกไปก่อนที่ฤดูกาลจะเริ่มต้นขึ้น

เพราะฉะนั้น … ข่าวของ พาร์คส์ ถือว่าเป็นข่าวที่ใหญ่โตพอสมควร เขาเคยเล่นกับทีมชาติฟิลิปปินส์หลายชุด ทั้งชุดแชมป์ ซีเกมส์ 2011 และ 2013 อีกทั้งชุด SEABA Championship 2015 รวมไปถึงชุดรอบคัดเลือกโอลิมปิค 2016 อีกด้วย ถ้า เขาได้มาร่วมเล่นใน ABL จริงๆ จะทำให้ระดับการเล่นของสตาร์ในลีกนี้สูงมากขึ้นไปอีก
แต่ตอนนี้ ยังไม่มีการประกาศอย่างเป็นทางการ เพราะฉะนั้น ตอนนี้ก็ได้แต่เพียงเพ้อฝันกันไปก่อนนะครับผม
