Joshua Munzon will sign on as an ASEAN Import for the Saigon Heat in this upcoming seventh season of the ASEAN Basketball League.

On October 8, Munzon announced via his Instagram/Facebook account that he had signed his first professional contract with the Saigon Heat.
The Filipino-American had recently wrapped up his college education at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) the NCAA Division II school where he played for 4 years.
Fun Fact: At CSULA, Munzon played with another Fil-Am, Davon Potts, who just wrapped up a championship season with the San Beda Red Lions in the Philippines NCAA.
Munzon has always been one of the biggest contributors for CSULA since his very first season. He started all of his games in his freshmen, junior, and senior season. He finished strong with a senior season averaging 12.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.9 steals in 34.9 minutes. Even though CSULA plays in the NCAA Division II, they have been matched up against teams from Power 6 conferences from NCAA Division I and Munzon always seem to step up in those situations. Against UCLA, Munzon led his team with 17 points. Against Washinton State, Munzon led his team with 24 points. Against Saint Mary’s, Munzon led his team with 18 points.
Joshua Munzon knows when to step up and shine in the limelight.
The Saigon Heat will surely need him to bring his A-game in this upcoming season. David Viet Arnold and Lenny Daniels might be returning for the Heat, but there will be a huge void for Munzon to fill in left by Moses Morgan.
While Morgan was a bulky shooter who occasionally used his size to ram into the paint and draw fouls, Munzon is more of a wispy slasher. He gets to the line at a decent rate (2.5 per game through his collegiate career, 3.8 in his senior year) and converts those chances into points (73.4% FT). Munzon might not be able to spread the floor like Morgan (shot over 30% from 3P in his freshmen year) but that might be key to getting Arnold more open outside.
All of this is speculation for now, since we won’t know for sure how the team will mesh together, so don’t forget to stay tuned for when the Saigon Heat kick their ASEAN Basketball League season in late November!
