While we wait for the pieces to fall in place for the Thailand Basketball League (TBL), let’s get a quick update on the scene.
A local Singaporean newspaper mentioned that local big man, Delvin Goh, has been contacted by a team in the TBL to inquire his interest in playing in the TBL.
I contacted Goh afterwards for confirmation and learned that it was indeed the Dunkin Raptors who had contacted him. Goh added that there has been no official contract offer yet and that he himself has yet to decide if he wants to play, citing personal reasons.
Goh averaged 3.2 points and 3.7 rebounds for the Singapore Slingers last ABL season.
What we can take from this tidbit is:
1. The Dunkin Raptors are surely back in the TBL despite having a 0-10 record last year. This will be their third straight year in the league. It shows the determination that the team has and that their upper management realizes that it takes time to build a basketball team. Good news.
2. Not only is the ABL a stage for local basketball talents to shine, but it can also be used as a launching pad for them to other leagues, not only the PBA. Let’s face it, without the ABL, the Dunkin Raptors management might have never heard of Delvin Goh at all.
3. This lightly confirms the rumor that the TBL will be applying a rule similar to the ABL concerning ASEAN Imports. From what I have heard, the TBL will be allowing all teams except the top three from the previous year (Mono Vampires, Mono Thew, and Hitech) to sign one ASEAN Import. It is not clear yet what the interpretation of an “ASEAN Import” is yet, but that should soon be released. This would give the lower ranked teams a better chance to get reinforcements to fight the better established teams. Interesting.

มีการกล่าวถึงในหนังสือพิมพ์ที่สิงคโปร์แห่งหนึ่งว่า เซนเตอร์ของทีม สิงคโปร์ สลิงเกอร์ส เดลวิน โกห์ ได้มีทีมจาก ไทยแลนด์บาสเกตบอลลีก มาติดต่อสอบถามความสนใจ
หลังจากที่ผมได้ติดต่อ โกห์ เพิ่มเติมไปเพื่อยืนยันขอมูล ก็ได้ความว่า มีทีม ดังกิน แรงเตอร์ส ติดต่อมาจริงๆ แต่ โกห์ ก็เสริมต่อว่า ณ ขณะนี้ ยังไม่มีการยื่นสัญญามาตกลงกันอย่างเป็นทางการ และตัวเขาเองก็ยังไม่ได้ตัดสินใจแน่นอนว่าตนเองมีความสนใจจะมาเล่นหรือไม่ ด้วยเหตุผลส่วนตัว
โกห์ ทำไป 3.2 แต้ม และ 3.7 รีบาวด์ ใน ABL ฤดูกาลที่ผ่านมา
สิ่งที่เราเรียนรู้จากข่าวเล็กๆ น้อยๆ นี้คือ
1. ทีม ดังกิน แรพเตอร์ส จะกลับมาเล่นใน TBL เป็นปีที่ 3 ถึงแม้ว่าปีที่แล้วจะมีสถิติเพียง 0-10 ซึ่งแสดงให้เห็นถึงความมุ่งมั่นของผู้บริหาร และ ทำให้รู้ว่าเขามีความเข้าใจว่าทีมบาสต้องใช้เวลาในกาสร้างตัวขึ้นมา
2. เป็นการยืนยันว่า ABL นอกจากจะเป็นเวทีที่ใช้แสดงความสามารถของผู้เล่นได้ ยังสามารถใช้เป็นแท่นถีบตัวของผู้เล่นเหล่านี้ ออกไปสู่ลีกต่างประเทศได้อีกด้วย นอกจากลีก PBA ต้องยอมรับว่า ถ้าไม่มี ABL ผู้บริการของ แรพเตอร์ส ก็อาจจะไม่เคยเห็นหน้าค่าตาของ เดลวิน เลยด้วยซ้ำ
3. เป็นการยืนยันเบาๆ ว่าด้วยข่าวลือที่ว่า TBL ปีนี้ จะมีการใช้กฏ ASEAN Import คล้ายๆ กับใน ABL ซึ่งเท่าที่ได้ยินมาคือ ทุกทีม นอกจากทีมสามอันดับแรกปีที่แล้วนั้น จะมีสิทธิในการเซ็นตัว ASEAN Import หนึ่งคน นิยามของ ASEAN Import ยังไม่มีการประกาศชัดเจน แต่ก็คงอีกไม่นาน กฎนี้ น่าจะช่วยทีมที่มีฐานที่ไม่แข็งแกร่ง สามารถต่อกรกับทีมใหญ่ๆ ได้มากขึ้น หากใช้งานได้ดี
